PCE, SS, DOS Gentleman’s Game (Butter) Compilation

As we all know, the 1990s was the golden age of butter. Various butter workshops rushed to launch various gentleman's games, among which companies such as ELF and Leaf are the most well-known. With the strengthening of supervision, major butter factories have closed down one after another, and now there is almost no trace of them, and modern butter on Steam cannot reproduce the glory of the past.

Recently, when I was sorting out retro games, I just happened to sort them out for this purpose. Since the retro platform can't run Windows 98 perfectly, I didn't include the Windows platform. But in fact, the gentleman games on Windows are more outstanding, such as Tailing, Tram Wolf, and Artificial Girl, which have been highly recommended. Of course, they also include various GalGames. Introduction to PCE, SS, DOS

These three platforms are already very far away from us (40 years ago), so let’s briefly introduce these three platforms:

DOS

DOS is the predecessor of Windows. Since it is not a host platform, there is no audit mechanism at all, so manufacturers can develop completely freely. Many workshops developed well-known games based on DOS (later Windows).

PC Engine

PCE is very special. It officially does not encourage butter. However, since it brought its own CD-ROM in 1988 (1M floppy disks were not very common at that time, and CDs can hold 500M), a large number of games can be filled with indescribable things. Manufacturers also took this opportunity to release many gentleman's games, but most of them are actually side projects. Similar to dating simulator, strip mahjong, academy series, etc.

Sega Saturn (SS, Sega Saturn)

This console is the most classic hotbed of butter. Because its performance is stronger than that of the PS at the same time and the review is very lax, a lot of butter appears on the SS. Moreover, the production is very sophisticated compared to the above two platforms, and the playability of the game is also very high, second only to Windows (but finding games and adapting to Windows 98 is now a big problem)
