Everyone knows that Chase and Discover's 5% bonus cards, aside from their initial strong promotion, haven't been very effective since. They only drop out of the next quarter's 5% category at the end of each quarter, especially last year, when not only were updates slow but the bonuses were also quite lackluster.
However, I checked Discover's categories today and was pleasantly surprised to find that they've released all of this year's top-rated products! And they're all fantastic!
First quarter: Keep it up!
Second quarter: Grocery shopping
Third quarter: Eating
Fourth quarter: Amazon
While Chase next door is still struggling with the second quarter, Discover has already taken a significant lead. Except for the 5% cashback in the fourth quarter, which has a Prime card alternative, the other three are top-tier cashback offers (except for AMEX's 6% cashback on groceries).
