Suddenly realizing that HelloGWU's 7th anniversary is just two days away, I'm struck by how quickly time flies and how wonderfully it has been. Looking back on these seven years, from rapid product iteration to optimized automated services, from a well-known campus community to a city forum with a little-known history, HelloGWU has always upheld the attitude of "serving" international students, earning the love and respect of many. In these seven years, without marketing or team management, HelloGWU has achieved remarkable results and maintained rapid growth.
Over the past seven years, we have not only accumulated a wealth of technical and operational experience, but also tried various projects. Washington Student Network has become a leading student network in North America, and WeWashington and Washington Neighborhood have also performed remarkably well. All of this experience will converge on a brand new business project – Other Lands.
The seven-year itch – over the past few years, suggestions for commercialization have been constant, and the desire to do so has been stirring within us. However, truly creating a successful commercial product is no easy feat, but now, we've decided to take that step! And coincidentally, this is HelloGWU's 7th anniversary. Fate has brought us together, and we look forward to setting sail and conquering the vast ocean. On this occasion, I'd like to introduce our project, "He Xiang," which has been in the works for several months, and we welcome all ambitious individuals to join us!
What is a foreign land?
TaXiang.io, just like its name suggests, represents a vertical platform where we are far from home but long for our homeland.
Overseas youth, whether studying or working, face various challenges. While diverse solutions exist in the market, many products fail to sustain growth due to market size limitations and a lack of awareness. "He Xiang" aims to explore this niche, creating a premier platform for overseas youth.
In my ideal world, a foreign land would involve the following aspects:
- Targeted, high-quality news and information
- Valuable experience and content summary
- Classified information services (including rentals, used goods, car markets, etc.)
- Online communication and offline activities
- Targeted high-quality services
Targeted, high-quality news and information
Since the advent of information channels like WeChat and Toutiao, information has exploded, bombarding everyone's phones with various push notifications daily, which is quite annoying. However, there are no truly targeted information sources for overseas youth. Obtaining this type of information has become extremely complex, potentially requiring searching for specific public accounts or subscribing to relevant columns. We aim to help organize this information and provide a high-quality channel through our efforts.
Valuable experience and content summary
Overseas is vastly different from China, which permeates every aspect of life. Coupled with language differences, newcomers and even those who have been there for several years will encounter all sorts of new problems. However, most overseas lifestyles are relatively fixed and development is relatively stable, and many experiences can be used for a very long time, which makes these experiences more valuable and enduring.
We want to organize and summarize this information to provide everyone with a channel to access it, enabling them to live in the United States faster and better, whether for tourism, study, or long-term residence.
Classified information services
This is actually an area we excel at, after all, HelloGWU has been doing it successfully for seven years. While it's not a pain point, it is a demand. Based on our experience, we continue to provide users with a wider range of classified information services.
Online communication and offline activities
Thanks to WeChat, most of the needs for online communication have been met. However, for overseas communities with high mobility, there are still many shortcomings in this regard. The biggest advantage of online platforms may be that they are not as chaotic as WeChat groups, and people do not have to beg to be added to groups all day long, nor do random people add friends in the group on WeChat.
We want to continue exploring this path, even if it's just an index for communication or an interest group. As long as it helps overseas youth find their own circles, we will continue to optimize our online communication platform.
There is a very strong demand for offline activities, ranging from small sharing sessions, outings, job fairs, and board games to large-scale events. We want to leverage the advantages of our existing online platforms to develop and expand offline activities, allowing people to move from the virtual world to the real world based on their interests, enriching their lives and expanding their networks.
Targeted high-quality services
Many international students have been scammed, whether it's renting an apartment, buying a car, buying a house, or getting a lawyer. Things that seem simple in China become extremely complicated when you go abroad.
The reason for this is that there are many profit-driven businesses in the market that exploit people's lack of knowledge and market opacity to make profits, while many excellent service providers are thus overlooked. We aim to connect you with excellent service providers, enabling truly capable and high-performing providers to offer their services, and giving overseas youth a platform to find truly reliable services.
Recruiting new employees in other places
