Washington, D.C. platform rankings and data

I originally wanted to write something, but I feel like it would be a long and rambling piece, so I'll hold off for now. This table is something I made while researching and learning from my colleagues, and I'm sharing it for your reference.

Another purpose of creating this table is to address the current atmosphere of hype and the increasing prevalence of self-promotion and deceptive practices like buying traffic. I hope to disseminate some basic knowledge about these methods. I have paid professional accounts on several big data websites. If you are interested in the data from a particular website, feel free to contact me, and I can take a look.

Precautions:

  1. All the data is publicly available; you can check it yourself. Please don't contact me about the data; I don't do data analysis.
  2. This table only includes data that I consider important, not all of it.
  3. To save face for the platforms listed later, the amount after 1 million was omitted.
  4. These are just a few platforms I know of, and do not include all websites and platforms in Washington, D.C. If you know of any others, please let me know, and I'll be happy to add them to the list and continue to update it.
  5. All data is current as of May 12, 2017.
  6. Platform traffic represents the platform's value, but it is not the only indicator and should be used for reference only.

annotation:

  1. The key parameters are monthly pageviews, time per visit, and pageviews.
  2. Time per visit (TPD) refers to the duration a user spends on a website each time they visit. A typical TTD of a few tens of seconds indicates that the user clicked on content details, viewed it, and then closed the page. Longer TTDs suggest that other content on the website is more attractive to the user.
  3. Pages per visit (PBD) refers to the number of pages viewed per visit. It's generally proportional to the "time per visit," but sometimes this isn't the case. These two metrics roughly represent the overall strength of a website. It's normal for news websites to have lower PBD metrics, as most traffic comes from sharing and search engine traffic.
  4. Search engine visibility and social network sharing generally directly determine website traffic and are also indicators of website quality.
  5. Google and Baidu index websites based on the volume of their content, so it's not very useful for reference.
