A semester has passed in the blink of an eye. This is my fourth semester working in the student union, and I'm quite familiar with its work. At the beginning of the semester, the School of Information Engineering was divided into two branches: Branch One and Branch Two. Our Wenyi Campus and Dongyue Campus merged into Branch One, while the Xiasha Campus became Branch Two. This made our student union's work different this semester. We not only had to organize various activities, but also oversee the development of various systems for Branch One's student union, and select and train new members to take over our class.
As the president of the student union, I felt the pressure brought about by these changes. While ensuring the quality of our activities, we also needed to focus on training our members and building our internal culture and rules and regulations, laying a foundation for the future work of the student union of the first branch.

One of the important tasks this semester is to select and train student leaders. The students of our College of Arts and Sciences, Class 1, will be going to Xiasha in their third year, and they will all be leaving the College of Arts and Sciences Student Union. Therefore, we need a group of capable and competent student leaders to take up the banner of the Student Union after we leave, and inherit and continue to develop our Student Union. Therefore, our Student Union has arranged some targeted activities this semester.
At the beginning of the semester, we conducted interviews to select a group of promising and outstanding members as assistant ministers for focused training. We then revised our activity schedule, assigning each department an activity to organize independently. In organizing these activities, ministers were given guidance but not direct involvement, providing assistants and members with opportunities for independent thinking and work. Mid-semester, we also organized an internal student union planning activity: "Innovation Winners," allowing members to form teams and independently experience the process from planning to implementation, providing a platform for them to showcase and improve themselves.
Through these changes and internal activities, the members experienced firsthand the entire process of organizing student union activities, gaining a deeper understanding of the student union organization and greatly improving their abilities. This laid a solid foundation for them to be competent in the role of department head. We also used these activities to indirectly assess the members' abilities, gain a better understanding of their working styles, and provide valuable insights for selecting department heads and chairpersons.
Since the First Branch College was newly established, its student union system is still far from perfect. Another key task for our student union this year is to improve its systems. This semester, through the efforts of the department heads and members, the first drafts of the departmental regulations have been completed, and the student union's rules and regulations have been largely established. The presidium is responsible for integrating these systems and drafting the student union constitution. After referencing the constitutions of other universities and considering the actual situation of our college, the student union constitution was completed in the middle of this semester and approved by the college leadership, officially commencing implementation. Clearly, the first draft of the rules and regulations is not yet perfect and needs to be gradually improved in future work.
In addition to training members and establishing rules and regulations, the student union also focused on work innovation this semester. Innovation is a crucial quality for an organization to continuously improve and thrive. Therefore, we required department heads to collect innovative suggestions from each member and compile and submit innovation reports. Innovative suggestions with high feasibility were incorporated into the semester's work plan.
Based on feedback from last semester's members and past experience, we established a communication mechanism for members, providing a platform for each member to express their opinions and suggestions, which are then addressed by the department head and the student council. Although this increased our workload, it effectively improved the efficiency of the student council's work.
Having worked in the student union for nearly two years, I've noticed many inconveniences caused by the lack of a unified resource platform, given that the School of Information Engineering is divided into three campuses. These include difficulties in reading and revising plans, timely information exchange, the absence of an effective channel for members to express their ideas, and a platform for communication with other students.
Therefore, this semester, I used my understanding of the student union and my spare time to create a student union work platform. The platform is divided into two parts: one is a news release platform for students and teachers, including updates on the student union, activity details, activity photos, and activity features; the other is an internal office system for the student union. Through the news platform, we can promptly and centrally release information about our activities to students, while the internal office system cleverly utilizes the network to solve the problems caused by different campus locations. This system, after nearly a semester of development, has been completed and submitted for review, and will be officially launched next semester.
Last semester, in addition to completing the key tasks mentioned above, we also successfully organized various activities. During the semester, we held events such as the "First Table Tennis Tournament", the "Second Football Tournament", the "Host Competition", and the "Student Union Emblem Design Competition".
During the summer vacation, the student union organized a team to participate in social practice, which was recognized as an outstanding team at the school level and subsequently recommended by the school as an outstanding team at the provincial level. As my term nears its end, I look back and compare it to today, and I am filled with emotion: from past inexperience to present competence, from past helplessness to present confidence, from a blank slate to a vibrant and fulfilling one. The student union is a window to serve students and a link between teachers and students. We are deeply aware of the weight of our responsibilities and our own shortcomings. While reaping the rewards, we have also sown seeds of hope.
May the Student Union of the First Branch continue to develop and grow stronger.
P.S.: I really enjoyed my time at Wenyi High School~ It was a wonderful memory.
