2011

As 2011 draws to a close, it has been an extremely extraordinary year for me, with much to reflect upon and reminisce about. This year has shaped the course of my life, allowing me to accomplish many things I never dared to imagine before.

November and December were the two most relaxed months of 2011 for me. During these two months, apart from participating in the selection of outstanding classes and applying to schools, I was basically in a relaxed and carefree state, enjoying the "indulgent and decadent" life in the university dormitory. Although many classmates were no longer at school, I could still feel the happiness of group entertainment.

After finishing my exams in November, I immediately returned to the soccer field; sports are something I can't give up. It's been a full year since I finished training with the school team in October 2010. Although my physical fitness has completely failed me after a year of inactivity, I still enjoy the joy that soccer brings.

After nearly a month of rest and adjustment, my new life is about to begin. Last week, I unexpectedly received an acceptance letter from GWU (George Washington University). Although I may not ultimately attend this school, it means a lot to me. It means that I am certain to stay in the US for graduate studies after graduation, and it also means that I need to start preparing for it.

During the seven-month preparation period from now until next July, there are many things I need to accomplish. I will use this valuable time for self-improvement, specifically in the following areas:

1. Improve physical fitness. My frail physique has been a problem since junior high school. Although I run the 100-meter dash, my upper body strength is pitifully weak. Therefore, I need to improve my physical fitness as soon as possible. This will have two benefits: First, if I encounter danger, I can protect myself, and in the event of a disaster like 2012, I'll have more resilience. Second, in next year's college-wide soccer tournament, I can use my abilities to try and win a championship before leaving.

2. Improve my English proficiency to avoid being limited by it after arriving in the US. Improving my English is my top priority! Especially speaking and listening. Although I've taken the GRE and TOEFL, my speaking and listening skills are still far from those of advanced speakers. I don't want to struggle to adapt after arriving; I need to address these weaknesses before I go so I can quickly leverage my strengths and establish myself in graduate school!

3. To broaden my background: Although I feel confident in my computer skills, I realize there's a significant gap between me and top international graduates. There are many fundamental areas I lack understanding. To avoid embarrassment and be able to quickly immerse myself in learning and research, I believe remedial learning in these areas is essential. This is especially true for highly specialized knowledge; while I may be proficient, a solid foundation is crucial, and I must work hard on this during this period.

4. Reading: Because I've been studying English all year, I haven't had time to read. The immense pressure has caused some psychological issues. I need to correct this deviation and finish reading the books on my reading list that interest me to improve myself. I don't want to be carrying around thick books to America.

In 2011, I want to thank those who helped me during my difficult times. I will remember your help and repay your kindness tenfold. As I am about to enter a new phase, I need to rediscover myself and make all the necessary preparations.

Senior year is a year of transformation, and also a year of harvest. Many long-awaited dreams, many regrets that were not fulfilled, I hope to realize and make up for them in the last semester.

The CET-6 exam is on Saturday. I haven't taken it for two years, so I'd better hurry up and prepare.
