ShowerThoughts03 – Online Graveyard

The internet has been around for over 20 years now, and more and more of the original internet users are getting old. Inevitably, everyone will pass away. So, what happens to our internet accounts after we die?

Many systems have an elimination mechanism. For example, accounts that have not been used for a long time are marked as "inactive". Moreover, many products do not last long, and when the product is discontinued, the account data will naturally disappear.

But what about valuable accounts? Such as email accounts, social media accounts, game accounts, and so on. And besides natural death, there are also cases of accidental death. What should be done in those situations?

In reality, important assets, such as bank accounts and real estate, are backed by government laws and can be transferred through certain channels. But what about virtual accounts?

The idea of a digital graveyard came to mind. It's like a neutral platform where we store account information and set a series of personal characteristics as passwords, such as height, birthday, favorite things, etc., and can lock multiple "inheritor" email addresses.

Upon death, the heir can inherit the online accounts by entering their email address and answering questions. These accounts can even be inherited by a third party.

This service can attract users and generate profits through low service fees, and can also offer additional high-end services.
