As expected, being cooped up at home for so long has really dulled my imagination. It's been almost two years since I last had ShowerThoughts. Yesterday, I was suddenly awakened from a dream by someone, and I started thinking about the topic of immortality.
In fact, if we have offspring, our genes can be passed on. Our offspring will use our genes to be reborn again, and so on. In a sense, our genes are immortal because they are constantly being passed on. It seems that all living things on Earth follow this system.
However, we ourselves don't actually belong to that segment of the gene. So what we truly believe in as immortality is ourselves, or more bluntly, our consciousness. After all, the offspring created from your DNA possess a separate set of independent consciousness. Although they inherit your genes, they remain independent individuals.
So what is consciousness? Could it be understood that our current rules already grant immortality, but consciousness is a one-time event? This one-time consciousness is very important to us, something we want to preserve permanently, as if we are afraid of losing something. Why does this deep-seated subconscious anxiety exist? So consciousness also faces the issue of existence and survival, but a system hasn't been designed to grant it immortality? Or perhaps, there is an inherent mechanism for immortality, but we are simply unaware of it.
If consciousness can be upgraded, then our lives are spent experiencing different things to hone our consciousness, like leveling up in a game, thus making it more powerful. Or, at a higher level, they might be using Earth's ability to collect different consciousnesses for other purposes, taking advantage of the fact that immortal beings exist there? Living beings are carriers that continuously pass on their knowledge. Regardless of which consciousness resides in which organism, its physical capabilities are irrelevant; as long as it experiences enough time, it will improve to some extent. But why does our consciousness start from zero at birth? We are constantly experiencing what our predecessors have experienced; history repeats itself, and lessons are constantly being taught.
Is Earth a beginner's village?

Social development is a spiral process. Repetition is not 100% identical. Regression is for/will bring about progress. You're referring to memory, right? I'm certain humans lack free will. The human brain is just a repeating machine. If an electronic brain could store memories, you would be immortal.
The meaning of life for living beings is indeed: to reproduce. I recommend a book to you: *The Vital Question*.
@Lin :I've had the pleasure of reading it. Thank you!
