New stage

I took the GRE yesterday at noon, and the score was acceptable. After nearly a year of English study, I feel a huge sense of relief: this year has been unforgettable.

I started preparing for studying abroad a bit late, making the decision around the first semester of my junior year. At that time, I had absolutely no concept of the GRE and TOEFL exams. This February, I spent half a month in Shanghai, and from then on, tension, pressure, and various anxieties enveloped me. First, there was the exam registration; I really didn't expect so many people to take the GRE and TOEFL. The June GRE exam slots were full nationwide six months in advance, and I finally managed to get a spot at a test center in Beijing after a long wait. The TOEFL was the same; I was shocked by the huge market.

Over the past nine months, I took the TOEFL twice and the GRE twice. The 6G was my first truly daunting experience; four months of full-time preparation didn't help me much, and my final score was far from ideal. I planned to finish the TOEFL in July and then retire, but I greatly underestimated its difficulty and failed again. Honestly, July and August were the most painful period; with such poor scores on both exams, my resolve naturally wavered.

With the release of my 9T11G preparation plan, everything slowly began to change. I conquered the TOEFL in September and defeated the GRE yesterday; everything went smoothly. Finishing this exam felt like the end of the college entrance exam—an exciting sense of liberation, and a feeling of hope for life, with many wonderful things waiting for me to do.

It's worth mentioning that the new GRE is significantly less difficult than the old one. The reading section is at the TOEFL level, and the sentence completion section is slightly more challenging, but the vocabulary required is much smaller than the old GRE. I suppose having a few more months might have been better. Haha, I started preparing too late; there are no "what ifs" now.

Indeed, after such a long period of studying, I've fallen behind in quite a bit. Football, websites, books, friends, and so on. After a few days of rest, I need to slowly catch up.

In any case, I've gotten through this phase, and I'm about to enter a new one!
